Super Slatko Report

The Super Slatko is all about fun board games that can help with all the Family & Friend quality time you might have on the way. DJ MOE has a list of some fun games that can possibly help with that.

So here we go! Tri, cheteri, sad!

"Mlin" is a classic Croatian game similar to Nine Men's Morris,  a 2 player board game, revolving around strategy capture, which involves calculated moves and spatial awareness. Playing this game with native speakers can offer up opportunities for casual conversations in Croatian, building your language skills organically.

Another popular game is "Remi" or Rummy, a card game enjoyed across generations in Croatia. Playing Remi allows you to learn common phrases and numbers in Croatian while enjoying a social and playful setting. This game is known for encouraging friendly banter, providing a relaxed atmosphere for language practice.

"Crljenac" is a Croatian card game that involves bluffing and deduction. Playing this game can expose you to everyday expressions and slang usage, as players often engage in conversation during rounds. The social nature of the game encourages language interaction, making it a lighthearted and could be a fun language-learning tool for you.

The game "Čovječe ne ljuti se!" Uncle Mikes Favorite (Don't Get Angry, Man!) is a Croatian version of the popular board game Ludo/ Sorry!. Playing this game with locals can be an entertaining way to pick up everyday Croatian expressions and commands as you navigate the board. The interactive nature of the game calls for communication, making it an enjoyable language practice activity.

Another option is "Pictionary," adding a Croatian twist can be a fun language-learning game. The act of drawing and guessing prompts in Croatian can build your vocabulary while fostering a playful atmosphere. This well-known game with the additional educational layer will help build the enjoyment, making language learning part of the gaming experience.

Lastly and probably the easiest way to get playing, if you’re like me and you don’t know how to play most of these games yet. Start off with an UNO deck and use the vocabulary you learned on this pod cast. You just need to know your colors and your numbers up to 9. There’s some fun one liners you can drop on someone when they have to pick up more cards or reverse the order but we’ll leave that up to you.

Lots of games here to try, hopefully you and your loved ones can get a game going and spend some quality time together during the holidays.

And that’s it for the Super Slatko Report!
